Wi-Fi Easy Connect, built on Device Provisioning Protocol (DPP), facilitates secure device onboarding for headless devices without typing a password.
Using methods like QR code scans, it replaces manual password entry with encrypted, public key-based provisioning, perfect for devices without user interface or input buttons.
ThinkPalm brings Wi-Fi Easy Connect to life on RDK-B, enabling routers and gateways to serve as DPP Configurators for secure, password less onboarding of headless and smart devices across networks.
Manual Wi-Fi setup is no longer enough. From headless IoT devices to large scale deployments, outdated methods create security risks, delays, and support overhead.
See how device makers and service providers are solving onboarding challenges using Wi-Fi Easy Connect integration in the RDK-B stack.
ThinkPalm showcased a complete Wi-Fi Easy Connect implementation in RDK-B using DPP, featuring HAL API integration, QR-based onboarding, and real-time telemetry. Designed for frictionless provisioning in smart home ecosystems, the solution highlights scalability, security, and speed.

Your guide to understanding QR code–based Wi-Fi Easy Connect with DPP for secure device onboarding.
Any device that supports DPP (Device Provisioning Protocol) can work with Wi-Fi Easy Connect. This includes smart home devices, headless IoT devices (like sensors or plugs), and connected appliances. Even if the device has no screen or keyboard, it can still be onboarded securely using QR codes or NFC.
Yes, DPP can be integrated into most RDK-B routers. Provided the platform supports the necessary cryptographic libraries, HAL interface changes, and QR provisioning logic. Some customizations at the firmware and middleware layers may be required for full functionality.
It depends on the setup. In many cases, the device generates the QR code, and the gateway scans or receives it. But in some advanced implementations, the gateway can also generate or manage QR codes, especially during bulk provisioning or factory setups. ThinkPalm’s integration supports both options.
Wi-Fi Easy Connect uses public key cryptography, which is stronger and safer than WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup). Unlike WPS, there's no need for passwords or PINs, everything is encrypted and validated between the device and the gateway. This helps prevent unauthorized access and setup hijacking.
